Lovemedicine Girls Empowerment Expressive Arts 2017

Girls Empowerment Expressive Arts 2017

Call out for girls, ages 12 – 16, to participate in an eight-week course:

Bloom Girls Empowerment Project  ~  Sisterhood Expressive Arts Circle

Do you know a girl who is struggling with the social pressures of peers, school, media, family, and the undercurrents of society’s expectations that are placed on women today?  Perhaps it is you, your daughter, your sister, or someone you know. Do you love to sing, dance, act, write, paint, and perform?  Are you curious about these forms of expression and want to develop your skills, have fun connecting with new friends, and explore who you are?

Join professional artists Rebecca Ruth and Maggie Blue in this supportive, encouraging, safe, and playful environment at

This is an Eight-week intensive expressive arts program for girls.  Participants meet one evening per week, three hour classes, for two months.  They are supported by Rebecca Ruth Goutal (professional visual artist/trained counsellor) and Maggie Blue O’Hara (professional performing artist/director) to move through experiential arts processes to explore the issues that are relevant currently in their own lives as youth today. The curriculum is designed to allow the participants to naturally, through creative processes, bring forward what is important to them, find support and connection in the group, create powerful art that expresses their experience, and be empowered to collaboratively work toward a final multimedia performing art presentation.  In this way, they will share the culmination of their learning, experience and fine art.  As completion, friends, family, and community members will be invited to attend the presentation and share in celebration of the girls as powerful youth, as they are honored for their whole beings.

Course runs: Tuesday evenings in March and April  from 6 – 9 pm

Location: School Creative and Young Actors School

210 – 112 3rd Ave. East, Vancouver BC

This Expressive Arts Program offers girls a chance to get vulnerable and share about their experiences creatively, in a safe environment, while being empowered through art, sisterhood, and resilience skills.  As an artist and passionate woman standing for justice, balance, peace, love, joy, connection, and creativity on this Earth, I am so excited to invite you to this life changing course that I wish someone had created for me growing up! ”

Transformative Arts:

In this day and age with so much pressure from the media to be “perfect” and overly sexual, we offer a holistic performing arts program for girls (and eventually boys too) that gives them a safe place to explore the arts and important topics such as self esteem, confidence, positive body image and teaches them creative ways to express their inner feelings and direct them in creating their own performances about their tween/teen experiences.”
